About R. Loomis
Rebecca Loomis writes young adult fiction with a focus on fantasy, dystopian, and science fiction, with a hint of romance. She lives in Edmond, Oklahoma, with her husband Greg and her Goldendoodle Treble. Loomis holds a degree in music education and teaches in Edmond, writing books in her free time. Most Saturdays you can catch her drinking hot tea with six packets of honey and writing while listening to video game soundtracks and modern classical hits on loop.
“I write when the words won’t go away—like a hammering in my mind begging to be let out. For every dream, there’s a story waiting to be written, a world to be created.”
Does Touch of Kindness relate to your personal life in any way?
"Dori, my main character, is a book lover, gardening fan, and a theatre kid. In my own life, I love gardening, I can't stop reading, and theatre was a huge part of my teenage years. Her three friends are loosely based on some of mine from my high school production class. Other than the characters, Balfour, Texas is very similar to Red Oak, my hometown. I'm a Texan through and through, and I did my best to include phrases and places that every Texan would recognize. No book about a Texas girl would be accurate without the proper lingo.
On another note, Dori is very close to her mother which is something that is true in my own life. My mom is one of my best friends and I call her practically every day. A final relation between my book and my life is that Dori believes kindness, whether subconsciously or not, is important. As a teacher, I strive to instill in my students that it doesn't matter how much money you have or what you look like. What matters is that you are kind to those around you and that will make all the difference."
